Asparagus Plumosa Fern Care Guide

Plant Care Guide:

Asparagus Plumosa Fern

Botanical Name: Asparagus plumosus,  a-SPARE-uh-gus plu-MOH-sus

Common Names: Asparagus Fern, Climbing Asparagus, Common Asparagus Fern, Feathered Asparagus Fern, Ferny Asparagus, Lace Fern, Plumosa Fern

The Plumosa Fern is a quirky houseplant that has feathery, light foliage and makes for a great centerpiece. It is one of the fastest-growing, least demanding houseplants and thrives as a kokedama. Asparagus ferns are not ferns at all but instead belong to the asparagus family. They are named after ferns because of their delicate and lacey appearance.

Light Requirements

Bright, indirect light is ideal but it will tolerate more moderate light sources.

Water Requirements

Enjoys a deep watering once the soil has mostly (or completely) dried out. Tip: It is always better to underwater than to overwater.

Troubleshooting & Tips

Direct sunlight may scorch the needles, whereas insufficient light may turn them yellow and cause them to drop.

The asparagus fern is a thirsty plant which means it needs to be kept well-watered. However, asparagus ferns turning yellow are most commonly due to overwatering.

Over-watering or under-watering symptoms can include stems that lose vigor and flop.

Pet Friendly
