Ficus Ginseng Care Guide

Plant Care Guide

Ficus Ginseng

Botanical Name: Ficus microcarpa

Common Names: Ficus Ginseng, Chinese banyan, Malayan banyan, Indian laurel, Curtain fig

Ficus Ginseng is a member of the fig family and is most notable for its aerial roots. These roots grow vertically downwards from the branches, reaching into the ground and becoming trunks that act as pillars. The Ficus Ginseng is a carefree plant, easy to grow for both beginners and Kokedama pros alike.

Light Requirements

Bright, indirect light is ideal. Look for a sunny spot or somewhere that gets 4-5 hours of light a day.

Water Requirements

Enjoys a deep watering once the soil has mostly (or completely) dried out. Tip: It is always better to underwater than to overwater.

Troubleshooting and Tips

If a leaf turns yellow, don't worry about it. Leaves naturally die in the life cycle of a plant. If multiple leaves start to turn yellow it could be a sign that you are overwatering. It could also be a sign that the plant is too dry.

If leaves begin to drop your plant might be suffering from a cold draft or not enough sunlight.

Once your ficus has settled into his new environment, avoid moving him around too much. This will cause stress and leaf loss.

Pet Friendly

No.

Taking care of plants is not a one size fits all kind of thing.  Knowing what your plant likes and doesn't like takes time. Our guide is here to help you, but it is not the end-all of guides. So if you find that something isn't working, change it up! Remember, every home provides a different environment and climate for your plant.
